There is a new, incredibly ambitious project that has begun on the Web called "JewishPedia" which can be accessed at:
jpedia.jewishamor.com
It is attempting to garner articles and input about any Jewish Subject - Past Present or Future.
A comprehensive on-line Jewish Encyclopedia created and used by people around the world.
For those of you familiar with WikiPedia and the Wiki format this idea should be familiar.
For those of you who are not just a few short words of explanation.
The idea is to present an online encyclopedia produced by people worldwide. Articles are created, edited by and added to by people all over the world. A continuous addition to knowledge and facts. This is what the Wiki format offers.
Wikipedia has been incredibly successful in its endeavors. It is one of the most popular sources of "real" knowledge on the web.
JewishPedia, which has just opened, is based upon this familiar Wiki format, and is attempting to be the storehouse for Jewish knowledge. This includes all and any subjects that have any relationship to Judaism.
All Jewish subjects, personalities, history, religion, politics, current events etc. etc. are all encouraged.
Of course, this is all for free. Wiki Encyclopedia's are free storehouses of knowledge for all people.
Keep in mind that JewishPedia, like Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of knowledge. It is not a literary site nor a place to vent personal views. Like Wikipedia, it would like to be the choice of people around the world when they need or desire to find information about Jewish subjects.
The system is basically set up, though there are still Help files etc. that the staff at JewishPedia are entering day by day.
However, JewishPedia is now opening its doors for the public and wants to slowly but surely build a vast storehouse of knowledge for the Jewish People or anyone in the world interested in any Jewish Subject.
If you are in any doubt about the need or popularity of such a site please note that according to statistics on Alexa.com
Wikipedia is the 16th most popular web site in the world.
JewishPedia is an idea and plan whose time has arrived.
If you are not familiar with Wiki format from Wikipedia then it may be worth your while to take a look at the site:

JewishPedia for the time being is housed at: jpedia.jewishamor.com
